He’s just biding his time till he can hit
us with a whopper of a municipal tax bill.
A call to the City of Ottawa’s tax people
yielded the following information:
· * no, condo owners at 60-100
Prestige have not been sent the interim tax bills almost everyone else has
received;
· * in fact, we probably won’t get
our 2015 bill this year at all;
· * we will only be billed once we
are assessed by MPAC, something that likely won’t happen until some time in
2016;
· * then we’ll have a doozy of a
bill (though that wasn’t the official word used). It will cover the part of
2014 we owned our condos, all of 2015, and 2016.
If you’re interested, the City of Ottawa
has information on how to get a rough estimate of what you might owe. Go to ottawa.ca
and then “Property taxes.” Under “General tax information,” there’s a “Property
tax estimator.” It requires an MPAC assessment amount, which we don’t have. But
you can enter purchase price to get an approximate idea.
In any case, the message is clear. Hang on
to the money you’ve put aside for your property taxes, because they will be
coming for it.
Just not any time soon.
